Drawings from 2008
Here are a series of drawings and collages I made during the year 2008. I have been doing these more than sewing and taking pictures. Let’s see what 2009 brings to my plate. Enjoy.

I am adding beads and stitches to some of the drawings, so I guess I am still sewing.

Collage Postcard
This is a postcard I made for my friend, who is getting to be a Feng Shui expert. I did not intend it to be directed at her search for love, but it turned out to be the perfect little message for her at the time. This postcard was made from other images, paint and thread. It is part of a series of collages I made for a great group I belong to, but silly me, I sent them out before taking pictures of them.
Worth Ryder Gallery – Sept 25, 2007
Hello Everyone,
Here are my 2 pieces from the Worth Ryder Gallery Show at UC Berkeley. They were part of the Wash Rinse Repeat: Repeat show.
Enjoy…

This piece is based on childhood memories of playing with my grandmother’s thread spools.

Here is a detail of that piece.

This piece is based on childhood drawings.

And a detail of it. These are forms I am attracted to and keep coming back in my drawings.
Ar+Space Gallery Show June 29, 2007
This is the piece I had at the Wash Rinse Repeat show we had this summer.
The idea came from the array of pincushions I’ve had done for the Open Studios a couple of months before that.
Let me know what you think. I am now working on the pieces that will be showcased this September at UC Berkeley’s Worth Ryder Gallery.

New Drawings
I have been busy this summer with other things than art work. Boo-Hoo…
I finally made two new drawings. They are on a very nice Arches watercolor paper using charcoal and water-down acrylics. It was a fun experiment and I might keep doing some more of them. I was inspired by a drawing I saw on my way to Tango class last Friday night. Enjoy.
Other drawings I did in July:
These are on the gessoed linen using acrylic paint and black markers.
Bags and more bags
Here are some of the other bags I’ve made and will have available for sale at the Open Studios.
The Hobo Bag.
This one is made out of a very soft upholstery fabric I found at a discounted fabric store in Oakland. This store is almost my little secret…

The inside is a very nice cotton fabric I found at the same store.

The Orange Circle Bag.
It is probably the most difficult bag I have made to date. I used a dinner plate to make the pattern and elongated it to be able to fold the top half. The zipper was quite difficult to work with. I think i did OK considering…

Open Studios June 9-10, 2007
So, I will have my studio open to anyone who wants to come in and buy stuff from me, or just look.
Here are a couple of bags I will have for sale. Plus, more pincushions! And some drawings.

This bag is made out of blue acrylic felt I bought at the White Elephant sale in Oakland, CA. The interior is lined in orange cotton, also from the WES with 3 pockets perfect for brushes, pencils, pens, etc…I made all the wiggles of thread on the outside using my trusty sewing machine and tons of different color spools.

It has a piece of corrugated plastic in between the fabrics in the bottom, to make it sturdy.

Here is another bag:

This one is made from beautiful bark cloth inside and out. The handles go around the bottom. It is a sturdy bag with magnets on the flap to secure closure.

It does not have a pocket inside, but it opens wide for easy access.
Pincushion Bombs AWAY!!
These were inspired by squid. Really, I was thinking of squid. My neighbour thought they looked like bombs… Then, bombs away!!!
They are made from fleece and they are filled with scrap fleece and felt. I will also sell these at The East Bay Open Studios (June 2-3 and June 9-10, 2007). If you want one, just ask. I will gladly send you one. Only in purple and black, while supplies last…

These will be $2 ea. So come get them! Don’t you think they are super cute?
