Bags and more bags

Here are some of the other bags I’ve made and will have available for sale at the Open Studios.
The Hobo Bag.
This one is made out of a very soft upholstery fabric I found at a discounted fabric store in Oakland. This store is almost my little secret…

The inside is a very nice cotton fabric I found at the same store.

The Orange Circle Bag.
It is probably the most difficult bag I have made to date. I used a dinner plate to make the pattern and elongated it to be able to fold the top half. The zipper was quite difficult to work with. I think i did OK considering…

Open Studios June 9-10, 2007

So, I will have my studio open to anyone who wants to come in and buy stuff from me, or just look.
Here are a couple of bags I will have for sale. Plus, more pincushions! And some drawings.

This bag is made out of blue acrylic felt I bought at the White Elephant sale in Oakland, CA. The interior is lined in orange cotton, also from the WES with 3 pockets perfect for brushes, pencils, pens, etc…I made all the wiggles of thread on the outside using my trusty sewing machine and tons of different color spools.

It has a piece of corrugated plastic in between the fabrics in the bottom, to make it sturdy.

Here is another bag:

This one is made from beautiful bark cloth inside and out. The handles go around the bottom. It is a sturdy bag with magnets on the flap to secure closure.

It does not have a pocket inside, but it opens wide for easy access.

The Jeanetta Bag

Hi everyone,

It has been a while. Here is a bag I made for my friend Jeanetta. I named it after her, of course. I sew all the wiggles on the pink fabric and added a hard corrugated plastic in between the bottom pieces for stability.
The inside pockets are spacious and the b/w cotton fabric is a nice contrast to the silky striped liner.
I hope you like it as much I do.

Today is Marines’s Birthday

Although I’ve called my sister, Marines, for her Birthday, I can’t stop feeling guilty that I just left her a message. Our difference in time is about 4 hours and it is quite difficult for me to call her at a decent time. Even after all these years.
So, I am just going to post pictures of my everyday bag. This is the Madras Bag. Made with vintage fabric I found at the Alameda Antiques Fair. I lined it with a beautiful orange satin fabric I bought at a closeout sale. It has an inside pocket I can put my keys and cell phone. The Flower is made from felt I bought at Britex Fabrics in San Francisco. Yummy!

Whimsical Drawings

Inspired by some artwork I saw at The Gardener, I drew these and send one to my Father for Father’s day last year.
The rest became an exercise on creativity, since I hadn’t been doing any photography at the time. I drew one of these a day for about 2 months and gave them away as our 2006 Christmas Cards. Now all my friends and family have an original CRH drawing. They are all made with archival color inks on Fabriano watercolor paper. Que los disfruten…

From Puerto Rico with Love

Here’s the travel tote. It is made from store-bought turquoise felt and multi-color thread. I made all the wiggly designs on the felt and used a light blue cotton fabric for the inside. It has two pockets making it a great bag to travel with. Check it out! We were in Beautiful Puerto Rico for a wedding and could not resist the colors of Downtown Hatillo that matched so perfectly with the bag. Notice the bag has a flimsy bottom. I have fixed that with a piece of corrugated vinyl/poly board. Now the bottom is stiff and somewhat water resistant.

Bursting Bag

I copied the pattern for this bag from a Kenneth Cole bag I bought a long time ago. The guard at the entrance to the De Young Museum loved it and I almost sold it to her right then and there. Well, not really, she was working… This is another one that my friend Adrianne bought for another gift.
Enjoy,

Pink Cammo Tote

This tote was inspired by my neighbor Adrianne, who is all into cammo prints. My friend Rebecca got the fabric and I did the sewing. Voila!
